Karat - Gold und Edelsteine

Für Edelsteine ist Karat (auch Carat) eine Gewichtseinheit (abgekürzt Kt)
1 Karat = 0,2 Gramm, ein Diamant von 0,5 Karat wiegt also 100 Milligramm = 0,1 g.

Für Gold und Silber und andere Metalle ist Karat eine Angabe des Reinheitsgrades (abgekürzt K):
24 Karat Gold = reines Gold
16 Karat = 75% Gold, 25% andere Metalle (=750er Gold) (16 von 24 ist soviel wie 750 von 1000)
12 Karat = 50% Gold, 50% andere Metalle (=500er Gold)
8 Karat = 33% Gold, 67% andere Metalle (=333er Gold) etc.
